The moon was full and it was pink. Kaieran looked up and stared at the moon. He was sure that he had never seen the moon that full nor that pink. It was this obscure shade of pink as if it was covered in blood and then bleached. The moon stared back at Kaieran. Kaieran grunted at the moon. The moon did not grunt back at Kaieran. Kaieran snorted and coax his horse onward, sure that he had won the short grunting battle with the moon, pink or no.
Kaieran was trotting along the Great Stone Road because it was the shortest route to Ortega, the nearest
Grand City. I meant that Kaieran's horse, Sighz, was trotting, not Kaieran. Kaieran was sure he would never trot
...not even for a pretty-faced girl. But Kaieran had no doubt that he would make Sighz trot for a pretty-face,
especially for a pretty-face.
The sight before Kaieran and his horse brought him back down from his thoughts. The Grand City of Ortega
rose straight in front of him. The tallest Thower towered over him, even though he was on a hill and the Grand
City of Ortega was in the valley below him. He hurrahed and Sighz cantered down toward the Grand City
of Ortega...and the starting of this unlikely adventure.
